problems with this design

could anyone help me with the potential problems with this design...

I was going to add supports beneath the rails but frustration was getting the better of me while trying to use sketchup....

Hi,

here is a picture from my router x-axis. Not finished and without the bearings.

I will finish the drawing at the weekend.

Bye

Looks like you plan to let the gantry glide along the top of the rails...you'll need bearings under the rails to prevent the gantry from lifting when plunging.

The gantry style you have here is alomst the same as the one I'm working on. The shafts need support or it will have deflection! I'm going to have to change mine, but I don't have the funds to do it now. I also notice a bit of movement at the ends of the gantry due to the lead screw only being in the middle. I haven't tried yet, but I may be able to load the pressure on the bearings a bit to cut it down. I was thinking I may try to add some type of spring or gas shock to dampen the movment if it make the tool chatter.
