I have made a test cutting file for those who have made a CNC router and want to see it do somthing better than cutting a circle or a square. It is a 200mm x 200mm square with lots of webding fonts engraved onto it. You can use this file to show your friends your machine in action. It will demonstrate lots of movement. While it is in the downloads section the link seems to be not working. I will put it in this thread in the mean time. I advise any downloaders to read the txt file first, b4 they run the test. EDIT: Because there is lots of small pictures, It may be better to scale up the size to the biggest your table can handle. Otherwise you may find the pictures will lose detail in the etching. I recomend a v bit to be used with this file. The pointiest one you can get. Last edited by ynneb; 05-31-2004 at 06:05 PM. |

| Thanks Benny, have to give that a try. Anyone have a small 3D part file they would share? I would like to see my machine cut a 3D part but I don't have any 3D software (yet). If it was ready to be run on Mach2 that would be great. |

| InventIt, I watched your machine progress and I must say you have built a very nice router! Here is a small 3d file in IGES and STL. It is 50x50x10mm with a multi-angled face. www.coldfusionracing.com/CNC/3d.IGS www.coldfusionracing.com/CNC/3d.STL

| Hey Inventit, tell me what tool you will use for the 3D routing and I will make the path according to that bit. Arvidb, Sorry I cant answer your question, because I dont know how to write Gcode. I use a program to spit it out. This is one of the reasons I have put up these files, for people like me who cant write gcode and want to test out their machines. With software to write the Gcode, I am not sure I will ever actually ever manually write anything. I guess its like writing HTML, you can do it by hand, or get a program to do it for you. |

| Thanks Cold Fusion, and thanks for posting the files. Unfortunately I don't have any way to turn the stl or igs files into gcode ynneb, I have ball end mills in 1/16, 1/8, 3/16, 1/4, 1/2" and also straight end mills too. Thanks I really appreciate it. |

| Here is a tiger to cut out. its 10"x7.5"x2" It will work with a mach2 controller. Use a 1/4" ball mill. For material I would suggest extruded foam 2" thick. You can get it cheap at home depot. Even expanded foam will work fine. Set zero at top left of the part. Zero is at the top of the surface of the stock. Good luck and have fun. Donny |
