Buy me a Beer?
sears quickrout in canada ??

i came across the quickrout adapter while surfing the net http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_1...me=Router+Bits

i checked out sears online and the US site has it but the Canadian site doesn t ?
its a nice little quick changer and it would be quite handy

i was wondering if anyone has bought one up here or if they are only an american product ?

Don't know but an interesting thing if it does not make the bit length to much longer might be interesting. Also would be cool for setting bit heights so all the bits are the same.

Also would probably have to grind a notch in the side of some bits for the allen screw to hold tight enough.

i figured it looks too good to pass up , i checked out ebay and this guy has some for a cheap price and reasonable shipping so i bought two kits , i figured for the price it was worth experimenting with , if it doesnt work then i'll add it to the heap of stuff from my project and eventually create some kind of monstrosity with it all

the guy still has 2 left if interested http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...ME:X:RTQ:CA:11

I had tried to use some of these for making circuit boards. The runout on them was around .007. Not good for drilling .020 holes and such . Probably work ok for routing. Maybe they could be 'tweeked'

I have over a dozen bit holders that I use regularly making cabinet doors.
Mostly I use 1/2" bits which tighten down like the collet.
The 1/4" ones have set screws, for the most part they work very well for me.
Making bit changes quick and painless. I see that they implemented this product on the cnc router that sears sells called the Compucarve.

thats good to here , im looking forward to trying it , tool changing is the one thing that has bothered me especially if i want to be able to do repeat parts , this way i can more or less keep my favourite tools always qualified for running most anything i plan to do ,i dont want to be constantly requalifing tools

are they half decently balanced ? i'm curious if they will cause much vibrations at high speed

I've only used 1\2" bits I can't vouch for 1\4". I don't see any problem when using them in a PC 7539/ 3 1\4 HP Plunge Router in my router table. (manual)

I also noticed that the bits that sears sell for this do have flats ground on them as mentioned by wcarrothers1

Hay Tpworks...

Do you have a pic of the holder mounted to the router itself? very convincing that it works given the large bits you are running with it. How ever I went by the sears store and from the packageing I could not see for sure how the chuk would attach to the router spindle. I have a PC router 3-1/4hp so that is what it would get connected to. They also had 2 versions of the kit. Seemed to be the difference between saying the fit "newer" craftsman routers then another that fit "Older"..

If you happen to know the catalog number of the kit you started with that would be good info..

Buy me a Beer?

my problem is that i'm not using a craftsman router , before i decided to buy i did a search in the forums and i came up with this thread http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showth...ight=quickrout
it will be simple for me to create an adapter if it is necessary

its funny how i see many postings concerning tool changers for routers and there doesn t seem to be many here who use this style of holder

I bought a few on Ebay that were made for porter cable about a year ago. I long since trashed the bubble pack so no part number, sorry. The collet comes off and this piece replaces it.

Buy me a Beer?

so i got these babies in the mail today
impressive little setup ,i think this might work out quite well ,i haven t tryed it yet but i will post how well it works once i do , its fairly large so my concern is how balanced this will be ,
it doesn t fit my router but the top dia is .5 ,so i just fit a piece of 1/2 ss stock with some heavy retaining compound , that way i can slide it into the existing collet , ive had tough times ever breaking anything apart with that compound so it should have plenty hold for this app , i hope
