What are the easiest ways to cut a hardened steel shaft? From my understanding, larger shafts are generally just case hardened right? You think it could possible be cut on a lathe with the right cutting tool? |

| yes several years ago i had a job making 14in pins from 24ft. pieces of thompson shafting. i used a carbide insert threading tool to initally cut through the case then a parting tool to finish. these shafts were 2.5 in in dia. i used coated carbide good luck Dar |
