Hello guys

I am working on the z axis for my machine. I have some ebay (IKO) rails that I thought I would use for the Z axis. I only plan to use one rail with the cutter being attached directly to the rail. The screw will be below it for the movement. This is a 1 inch rail travel 7-8 in.

What do you guys think? Will the rail be sturdy enough? Any other foreseeable problems? Dimensions for the whole machine will be about 28X40

Two blocks would be better, but it should work OK, provided the rail is mounted very solidly. Our 10HP routers at work are on a single 25mm rail with 2 blocks.

I have another block - you are right 2 blocks is a better way to go
