I just obtained a quote form a company who makes racks. They quoted a price on 1018 steel racks. Would this type steel be hard/durable enough for the x and y axis of a 4x8 router? If I mount the rack on the side of my 80/20 aluminum frame, with the teeth facing sideways to eliminate chips collecting in the troughs, and bore the mounting holes through the "tooth side", will these holes cause wear on the spur grears? Will a rack and pinion system be fairly accurate? Or will it need constant adjusting etc? Thanks |
