Hello, Together with 3 other students I have to build a xyz-table to do some precise mesurements (1/100 mm). We wore wondering if someboddy could give us some tips to keep in mind when we are drawing and developing the table. We're probably going to use aluminum for the construction of the table (one material to keep galvanic corosion to the minimum and to have the same temperature effects). We 'll use one arm (movement in z direction) and 2 axes to move in the XY- direction. thanks for you're help |

| Wow, that's pretty big. 1/100ths on that big machine, be sure you have to control the temperature and humidity in the room if you want to guarantee those low levels of measurements. I wouldn't go for aluminium on that size and the wanted precision, it's simply not temperature stable enough as I see it. There are companies that sells high precision pregrinded steel parts and it's not much more expensive than alu. I would create box or L-shapes by mounting two (or more) steel plates together with screws, it will be both strong and much more stable than alu. For example the Swedish super steel company Uddeholm also has an office in Belgium. ![]() http://www.uddeholm.com http://www.uddeholm.be Good luck, and don't forget to bring us pictures! ![]() Sven |

And about the aluminum: i think will get a climatised room so do you still think its beter to go for steel plate? And offcourse will put some pic's online of the final product. |
