I am thinking about making a machine base using 3/8" aluminum tool plate mounted on a 2" x 1/2 " aluminum bar foundation. The bars will run the perimeter of the plate with two evenly spaced cross members. The size of the base will be 24" x 48". The X axis rails will be fully supported 47 1/2" Thompson 1/2" rails (I have these already) mounted on the tool plate machined surface. Any comments about this idea from those with some experience would be appreciated |
