| How big and what kind of rail? 1 inch drill rod is going to need less support than 1 inch gas pipe. What kind of load? a foam cutter will need less support than a mill for steel. A little more information in the question might yield some answers. robotic regards, Tom = = = = = Middle age is when work is a lot less fun - and fun a lot more work. - - Bob Hope |

| OK. Let me see if I can stick my neck out here and not step too heavily on it ![]() Given: 1. This is the woodworking forum so you're building a wood router. 2. The thread subject is 3x6 so you are going for a 3 feet by 6 feet footprint (cutting area somewhat less). 3. Your router is about 1 horsepower, 110Vac. 4. You can live with 0.030 (~1/32 inch) accuracy. 5. You plan on solid end supports for your rails. 6. You have a very rigid base to build on. Answers: A. Your 3 foot span (Y axis) will probably be ok with just end supports. B. Your 6 foot span (X axis) will need at least one center support. robotic regards, Tom = = = = = Some people complain because God puts thorns on roses, while others praise God for putting roses among the thorns. - - anonymous |
