Here is a video of my nearly finished cnc router/plasma cutter. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...07076855559029 I have a bit more to do in that I have to build the plasma cutter torch holder and make the clips to hold the metal from the bottom. I need to make the vertical stand parts also. The idea of my machine was to build a simple cnc router that I could roll around my shop and when not using it store it vertically and out of the way. I'm using a rack and pinion drive with 2 452 oz in bipolar parallel wired motors driving the Y axis. The right hand motor is slaved to the other motor using Mach3 software. I'm using the Gecko G203 step motor drivers. I just finished routing a new address sign for my house with this machine. I'll soon post a short video of it running. I live about 1/3 of a mile from the Woodinville McLendon's. God Bless McLendon ! While I built this mostly from parts I already had, it seemed like I was running down to Mclendos every time I worked on the machine to get a fasterner or something. They always had what I needed whether it was metric or imperial. Dan Mauch www.camtronics-cnc.com www.seanet.com/~dmauch

Maybe!. I want to add a 4th axis and most likely a 5th axis. There are a few more ideas that I want to incorporate and I want to see what the reaction is to this machine.

The way I mounted the cable carrier wasn;t the way that I wanted to mount it but I was sort of forced into it because the loaction where it was planned for has an interferrence with the Y home and limit switch. I still have some more work to do and I may be able to change the cables carriers to a more tradiotnal method after I add the 4th and 5th axis. I aslso went with this method because I wanted to see if the calculations and the actual performance of the machine were what I thought they would be. As you might guess, I am very happy. I had mentioned and several people requested a video of the machine doing something. The cnc router is no longer scary as I lowered the rapid speed from 1700+ IPM down to 400 IPM. http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...15522721&hl=en Here is a link to a video of the machine cutting a piece of cedar. I am using a 1/4" V Bit to engrave the street address number. I added a clip art of the Cedar tree before the first nyumber and then traced a image of Mt Rainier onto a piece of paper, Scanned it into the PC. Used a raster to vector program to vectorize it and then pasted that into Bobcad 21 to generate the G code. Mach3 is used as the G code interpreter running on an old laptop. I probably cut a little to deep and I should have been cutting a bit faster as the first cuts burned the wood a bit. Frorgive me for that as I usually work with metal and I am not well versed in wood butchering ![]() Dan Mauch Camtronics Inc www.camtronics-cnc.com assembled and tested G203 stepper systems

| Umm.. It rapids at 1700 IPM but cuts at 50 IPM. And how is that useful? Ok wait, it says "Plasma" here, didn't see it the first time. I withdraw my criticism, then. Carry on. _ Last edited by walter; 06-10-2007 at 02:27 AM. |
