Red face Thanks for all the help! but now I have questions on programing

Ok here is my original thread > a couple questions...

now..... I got a good idea of what I need to do as of making my Router Table. I was going to buy the $149 20mm Linear 55" Rail Guideway System ( would need two) but $300 bucks is alot for me at this moment... soo I am designing what I call my "bearing car". it is half inch aluminum plate by 6" L x 4" w and it will have 6 skate board bearings. what it will roll on: I'm thinking 1" square aluminum tube (x rail) yadda yadda yadda I'll figure the rest out.. now what I am wondering is..... when I figure out what motors and controller + software how will I calibrate it? or "tune" it?

I saw a couple links on Ebay of some what they looked like "RTR packeges" (3 stepper motors + controller + some thing else) those any good?

links to motors and controllers or packege deals will be appriciated!

Buy me a Beer?

You tell the control software how many steps it takes to move 1 inch. You do this for each axis. Then you set the acceleration and velocity for each motor. This is usually done by trial and error, slowly increasing speed until you find out what your motors are capable of, when they start losing steps. Then back off about 20% for safety.

The most popular packages are those from www.hobbycnc.com and www.xylotex.com

I will have to read through that site. thanks!

I have a question.... Will threaded rod work good as ball screws? I have some softer plastic I was thinking about using as a nut to get rid of backlash?

I was told that if you use 12mm threaded rod it has a good pitch and you can make the nuts without using special taps.
using softer plastic will wear out quicker unless you use Delrin http://www.theplasticshop.co.uk/erol.html#1444X1448

you could also make your mill and when it is up and working you can change them at a later time to inprove your mill
