http://www.8020.net

It's kind of like an erector set (meccano) for grown-ups.

Look at the bed, and think of it as a bunch of those extrusions, run parallel to one another. That's what I think they did...

The bed looks like 3 peices of 1040 or 1560, can't tell the exact size. Cool idea.

I'm assuming from 8020. I haven't searched their catalog but they do make a wide range of sizes. The T slot/ Xbeam stuff is great to build with. I'm using alot of 1010 (1" x 1") and 1020 (1" x 2") for the router I'm working on. I went through McMaster-Carr but I think you can order direct from 8020.

Bosh-rexroth has technical extrusions too, and are available in Europe. But they do not like to sell to hobbyists I think, at least all my emails are unanswered..

thanks for your replys. Its a pain this. One finding the right stuff and two at a price which is fair. And in the U.K bang my head against a brick wall comes to mind.

Example
USA bearings for 4 16mm £10 need 8 £20
12mmbearings £8.50

After the shipping cost £50 ish

UK same bits £18 pound each and i am being good with my cost total £210

Leadscrew in the us £69 plus shipping
Even if the shipping was £33 still a lot cheaper and also stepper motors.

In the u.k £216

also stepper motors a lot cheaper in the us

The only thing i seem to have got o.k in the u.k is the dremel tool holder..

Glen,

If you're looking for extruded aluminium in the UK, try the Item range from mbsystem in Derby, www.item-international.com or, Alumas in Chorley, Lancashire, www.nisltd.com/alumas

The Item system is a little expensive, German but excellent quality with every imaginable fitting available. The Alumas is similar, a little cheaper and not such an extensive range.

All the best,

Mike
