Regular acme threaded rod has a lead tolerance of +-.009 in. per foot. Precision acme threaded rod has a lead tolerance of +-.003 in. per foot. What size and type of acme rod are YOU using? What type of drive nut ( brass, delrin, anti-backlash, rotating, etc. ) What is the positioning / repeatability of your machine? What are the machine dimensions? |

| Actually, even the cheaper precision is ±.009. Keystone from MSC, which is what I used. The Nook they also sell is ±.003 1/2-8 2 start, with nuts from DumpsterCNC. 30x48 working area, but not yet finished.

| What size and type of acme rod are YOU using? Regular acme threaded rod, but looking to switch to 2 start precision. What type of drive nut ( brass, delrin, anti-backlash, rotating, etc. ) Steel embedded in HDPE (see the "Joe machine" designes. Once I switch to the 2 start I will have to switch to either dumpsters or make my own out of delrin. What is the positioning / repeatability of your machine? Don't know, machine is to new. But I did cut 11 identical pieces yesterday and they overlay perfectly (by eye). What are the machine dimensions? 3ft X 5 ft cutting bed.

| Thanks for the info, guys. My experience with acme rod sellers leaves much to be desired. Ordered (three) ''cnc acme leadscrews' from an Ebay seller. The package arrived beat-up and open on one end. Amazingly, nothing was missing... except packing material, to keep the rods from banging together, which apparently they did, many times. I ordered (two) 72 in. 1/2-10 acme rods from Enco. They were shipped in a very sturdy cardboard tube. Great, I thought. This time the rods will be pristine! I opened the tube, and there were my two rods, dinged and beatup from bumping into each other. Again, no packing material. I just ordered one Nook 72 in. 1/2 -10 precision acme rod from Reid Supply. Better price than MSC, $45.00 vs $57.00 (for the same rod). Wish me luck... |

| My screws from MSC were loose in a cardboard box full of foam peanuts, but were undamaged.
