Talking need help make the choice on what plan to use

Hi
I think I have it down to David Steel's plans or the jgro plans and Joes plans. Can any one give the pro and cons of each of these. I want to do carving in oak, cherry, and maple. I have to be able to cut min 20" wide and 36 to 43 long.
Thanks for all your help. The more info the better.

Thanks
Tim Emler

I can only comment on the JGRO. It was easy to build from the plans, but you would have to make modifications to get the size you need. The effective cutting area on mine is only 15 1/4" x 27 1/4". Extending the gantry 5" may introduce too much flex, especially if you're doing 3D carving.

joes plans are 2' x 4' cutting area as i remeber, designed to be used a that size but of course with size and strength comes cost and accuracy(no flexing, compared to stretching out the jgro plans)

Buy me a Beer?

For the size you want, Joes would probably be the best bet. Not too familiar with the Solsylva, but from what I've read, the leadscrew models are quite slow as well.
