Reid tools, acme nut & rod.

I have their catalog, parts AR-23 and AR-3. What do you guys think of them, they are 1/2" 10 TPI rods & nut combo. Will they give reasonable performance on a large wood router. Also, what do you think of the using a clamp style flexible coupler out of the rear of their catalogue, of the 3/8" to 1/2" mate variety.

The configuration would include a motor off of Xylotex( the 260 oz in one), with a shaft coupler/spacer machined custom that would mate the 1/4" motor shaft to the 3/8" coupler bore, the coupler having a 1/2" bore on the other end, then slide the threaded rod into that bore, bearings to the rod.

sorry for the sloppy drawing, only drawing program I have right now.

If I'm understanding you correctly, the couple looks to be a Lovejoy type coupler. If it is, you can just buy a 1/4" bore-spider-1/2" bore combo. Total cost about $5 or $6. You can get them from ENCO, McmasterCarr, etc.

That link is a real life saver, McMaster-Carr is the winner of the day.

If you're looking for acme screws as well, at least check out use-enco.com .
They have 6ft acme screws for $6.99. That is 1/2" 10tpi. If I saw correctly on reidtool.com, they were $45.00 apiece. You could buy your lead nut separate and still come out ahead. I know you can buy the lead nuts on dumpsters.com for $15 apiece. Don't know where Enco is located, but I ordered my screws Monday morning and they got to my house Wednesday morning. Fast.

looking in their catalogue, can't seem to find a 3/8"-10 ACME Precision anti-backlash plastic preloaded nut. The nuts they do have, have some really odd pitches - 3/8 -4? 7/16 - 2? 1/2 - 2? what kind of preloaded nuts are those.

anybody know where there are reasonably priced, plastic preloaded ACME Precision nuts, preferably in the 3/8 - 10 range. Or any other similar suggestions welcome. .
