OK, so I'm looking at these cheesy switches at Radio-Shack (Switches page) and wondering if the next to the last two would make good limit switches. I suddenly got a mental image of my gantry, weighing around 100 lbs and moving 100 IPM, hitting the limit switch. I realize that the motor would probably reverse itself trying to stay on the table, LOL, but I only have 2.5" of extra table (beyond the rails) at which point the gantry takes flight! My question is this, does anyone here use some kind of mechanical stop plate or rubber bumper type deal? I haven't noticed many on the pictures that are posted. The few stop plates I do see don't look very robust. I was thinking perhaps a large bolt all the way through the beam at the edge of the THK rails, covered with rubber hose. If the gantry made it that far then the block bearing would jam against the bolt and it would stop dead. Actually, my limit switch will be mounted on a one-bolt T-slot L-type bracket. I wonder if that would be enough? It just seems to me that 100 lbs moving 100" IPM is going to have allot of kinetic energy. Any advice appreciated........Sam |

| samualt - I've invested in the same cheesy R.S. switches. Haven'thooked up yet, but plan on putting them a bit before the required stop point. It will cost you a bit of axis length - but will get the "train" brakes-on! Then I've got a piece of 80/20 90angle to take the bump. The bumpers are also waiting install! See the gallery and look for: "System2_router_close_up" Jim

| High Seas: I had already saved pictures of your System-2 in my collection. Very nice! I was wondering, instead of a bolt sticking out to stop the bearing travel (Ouch!) perhaps two neodymium magnets might work. It would cushion the blow so it wouldn't slam the machine. Two neodymium magnets 1" square should do it, a friend of mine says. I might play with that and see. |

| I'll look for your progress! Yer right - the bolts are a bit extreeme - but there to remind me that I've got a bit more work to do. All the stop and home switches are waiting patiently as well. E-Stop works great though. Jim
