Hi all, Great site, finding lots of info. After reading for the past week or two, and looking at plans, I'm considering trying my hand at Joe's design. I've downloaded the .dwg and the .easm files. While looking at the .dwg files I noticed a file labeled X Axis Torsion Box Long Run Braces.dwg. I can't seem to find this item in the edrawings file. I found the long run brace 1 & 2, which brings me to my first 2 questions. 1) Is that item in the design somewhere and I'm overlooking it, or should I just ignore it? 2) Why are the long run braces split(1 & 2) instead of being one piece? Finally concerning the braces/ribs for X&Y torsion boxes. Hopefully this doesn't sound stupid. 3) Why are the rectangular holes in the braces/ribs?(I'm guessing to reduce weight) It's a great design, I'm just trying to get a full understanding of it before I start building. |

| The long brace has to be cut in two pieces because it is longer than the machine's usable travel. I had to do the same with my design. If you're going to try to make it by hand, or you have a larger cnc machine, then you can just cut it in one piece.

| I don't have access to a machine. Was thinking I could layout some templates and use those to make the parts. Although after looking at the drawings a little closer, I'm starting to wonder about laying out 30.0002" by hand LOL |

You won't get 30.0002 with a machine either. At least not a machine you would use to make one of these machines.

There's a whole lot of the DIY thing missing from that approach.

LOL Who knows, before its over I may do that. I actually enjoy building things though, so I don't mind cutting everything. Now if only the weather would cooperate. Figures that the entire winter has been in the 60's, and now that I want to start a project it turns cold BTW Anyone have a answer to #3? weight is still the only reason I can see for those cutouts. |
