Hi all, Since I've gotten my machine up and running, the biggest problems that I have now are noise and dust. So far my wife has been patient about the noise, but I still can't use my machine when my littlest one is down for a nap. As for the dust, I'm sick of having to stand there with the shop vac nozzle while the program runs. I've seen what some are doing the the hovercraft style skirting, but I don't think that will work for me for two reasons: 1. I can't see the bit cutting and 2. that only works well on flat parts. So to me the only decent alternative is an enclosure. Below is a pic that I modeled up in both the open and the closed positions. The center section is fastened to the table and the front and back sections are allowed to move in and out on drawer slides. I figured that I could seal the gaps between them with some door seals. I saw one at the hardware store the other day that had bristles. The openings are for windows that would get covered with plexiglass. Any opinions?

| jgro, An added bonus of any enclosure is that it will help cut down on the noise. My first impression of your enclosure design is that it might be overy complicated for what it does. Plus you still will have some access issue with it in the open position. Did you see the enclosure design on another thread? I think it was under Liberty routers. I wonder if you could just have flip up doors on all sides. Maybe something suspended from the ceiling. When you want access to the router, just flip up the side. Another consideration might be to add a dust extraction funnel near the bottom of the unit. Without some extraction, you will probably get a hugh pile of dust in the cabinet. Don't take my critic too harsh. Your idea is better than mine, as I haven't made a dust hood yet. T |

| FYI, I came up with this: http://nilno.com/laser_dir/cnc_table...CNC_Table.html I think most enclosures, wood or plexi, make for a large resonator. To take noise levels down to something the wife and kid can live with, you may want to move out . Just kidding. But I would suggest that you line the inside with acoustical tile. I'm considering doing it for my box-on-stilts.owen |
