Acrylic

I was planning on using steel tubing for my project, but I was playing around with some acrylic and am really suprised at how rigid it came out. I made a piece of tube with 0.50 inch thick acrylic making a 2x3 inch tube. Has anyone used acrylic like this? I have a lot of scrap like this laying around the garage.

The problem is that over time small cracks appear in acrylic especially at stress points and vibration in the machine will accelerate that process.

I have seen a small circuit board type router made from acrylic but I am not sure if it was ever finished.

As the saying goes " You will never know if you do not try."
