Setup Question

New machine is using 10 - 24 drive screws, StepperWorld motors with 200 steps per rev ( I assume), and controller only half-steps. Is Mach3 calc like this:

200 x 24 x 2 = 9600 pulses per inch ???

Sir,

If you are using microstepping, you will have to multiply your 200 steps/rev by the microstepping factor, 10x for Geckos, and other numbers depending on whose motor driver you are using.

I have 495 oz steppers and Xylotex driver and their power supply. I am using Mach 3. I am set on 1/8 mode. Why would I ever change it?

It's possible that you may get better performance from one of the other modes. I've read that some people can go faster in 1/4 step mode. But, Jeff at Xylotex recommends using 1/8 step mode for smoothest operation.

That's kind of what I thought but wasn't sure. I guess I just follow Jeffs
recomendation as I'm sure he knows best. Mine seems to run very smooth. Like the saying goes " If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Thanks for the reply................Nick
