How many building the cad cut cnc router?

I am awaiting the delivery of my plans for the cad cut router. I am curious to who all else is building this router, where your at on it and how its coming. Anyone made any deviations from the plans to make improvements or are the plans top notch as they are?

I should have them tomorrow. Can't wait to start this project.

I was considering pruchasing these plans myself. Have you had a chance to start building it? Are the plans easy to follow?

The plans are very well thought out. The machine is a very sturdy machine, using expensive linear rail systems. I have been gathering information in order to design a machine that will be a little easier on my wallet. A great starting point for me though.

I posted questions to the group CAD-CUT vs Machine Tool Camp. Having spent nearly a $1000 on plans alone I have decided that for my applications and the way I build and the way I work my vote is for the CAD-CUT router table. I have many obstacles to overcome such as I live in the UK and will have to convert all sizes to metric and that information I will be giving back to Tom at CAD-CUT I trust that will help others in the future I shall include for Tom a list of European sources as well. The real problem here is the router we operate 230V at 50hz. To top it off the nice fixed base router you all are using is illegal to sell over here. So I shall be importing one in myself I hope it works with a step down transformer and on 50hz?

Well guys ther you have it a decesion has been made the steel work has been placed with a welding shop across the road and a building for the unit has been purchased to sit along side of my boat build.

There are many outstanding issues. I know that CAD-CUT uses Ability Systems but I am curious about what are my other options Serial vs Parallel and so on. Any suggestions or thoughts on this would be helpful. I am leaning towards Mach2 only because there are so many people using it. In adition the cad package I use at present is TurboCAd Pro Version 10 I understand they have a CADCAM version as well anyone using it.

DeWayne, why are the US type routes illegal? I know B&Q sell one, albeit a cheap Jap import.
I imported one of the Makita RF1101 from www.coastaltools.com and it works great on a building site transformer.

The problem with the american routers are 2 fold one a legal one the other is a POSSIBLE performance problem.

1) The FANTASTIC fixed based routers do net meet CE certification and CE will not approve them. What a joke.

2) Reducing the frequency from 60hz to 50hz could have an effect on the induction motors in not getting the full rated output out. In the case of some of the american router the warranty will be void on 50hz (If they know).

Funny thing CE does not allow fixed base routers to be sold in europe but they do allow a plunge router to be locked into a fixed position. It would seem to me if you have a lick of sense the end results are the same.

The answer i have came up with is bug.. CE and import one mail order myself. Currently I am considering the Milwakee 3.5HP unit.

I plan on purchasing the plans. I have no CNC experience so I am building Kleinbauer's Phoenix as a prelude to this machine. As far as Kleinbauer's plans are concerned, do you think this would be the best plan to buy before starting work on the Cad Cut Machine?
