Wondering if the fan's on the steppers are neccessary..

And how much flex do you figure you are getting using the rubber tube isolators? Guessing since it looks like you are using regular screws there isn't much force back on that rubber tube so it probably works pretty well for what you are doing..

Hi db,

Nice looking job, am unable to view video as my settings need sorting.
Welcome to the Zone.

I have an interest in those fans as I am considering using CPU fans on my steppers as I plan to add an enclosure to my machine so looking to add extra cooling.
One question if I may; do you have any problems with interference from the fans with the steppers?

Regards,
John

Those look to be 12 volt PC fans driven from a power supply on his desk. I doubt they generate much of a megnetic field..

Since I use servos I'm wondering do steppers tend to get hotter more so then servos. I've only had mine get sorta warm but never hot enough you can't hold one

Hot enough to not being able to touch them for longer periodes, most are rated <100degrees. Im wondering why all the danes i've seen so far inhere are "jyder", is it because im the only one in copenhagen stupid enough to make a 1.2mx1.1m router in my 2mx3m storageroom in the basement:-D

hello everybody. I a new in this site and I want to ask you, if anyone have any plans for build stepper or servo drive from scratch? Prefer details because I don't have much khowlenge in electronic. I also try this site http://www.pminmo.com butI don't understard how connect one to another.
thank you for listening.

hi
yes the fan's on the steppers are neccessary
my stepper motor's from hp laserjet 24v tend to get hot
i use 2 pc psu serial 24 volt
and iam using regular screws and its works well for curtting mdf and foam
and no problem by megnetic field and fans with the steppers
i use 3 ucn5804b for controll my cnc and kcam demo
i used about 110$ for all component and take one day to assambling
and drawer slider work fine
6.p drawer slider 40$
rotary tools 10$
screw's and nut's 5$
elektronic compo.50$

Well i am also new.. but this is what i did..

These are the components that you will need..

First thing is a computer, with a Serial or Parallel port (there are USB interface processors but i have never used one)

From the 25 pin parallel port you will have a cable that will feed into your Interface card, this board will split the pins of the 25 pin connector into, sets of 3 .. ie Step, Direction and Common wires, to go to each motor (actually each motor driver board), You will need one motor Driver (chopper Driver) for each Stepper motor that you will control, these boards will be fed with a certain DC voltage and will modify the votage into higher current, high frequency voltage that will power the motor..

You will typically need a 12/ 24 volt power supply, to do this, you will get a 12/24v Transformer, (which typically has AC output) and get yourself a bridge rectifier (to transform to DC current) and a capacitor (to smooth the DC supply).. this will feed into the Motor Drivers and the interface boards

Once that is all working, your motors will run with a slight whistle sound (the HF fequencies bieng "Chopped")

Next thing you will need is controller software, This software basically shoots out the instructions to each of the pins in your paralell (or serial) port slots and effectuvely controls the motors (or inputs signals from devices such as limit switches or sensors).

Normally integrated into the controller software is the G-code Interperater (this is lines of instructions for the controller software, the code will make the controller software run all motors at different times to create the design underlying in the G-code

Then finally you need an application to actually draw the design (and spit out the G-code File )

well thats my understanding at least!, it would be nice to hear from some of the experts, what's going on.. or what software / hardware is the best..

thank you ADucci, but I want to know if its anyone built any controller (3 or 4 axis) and give us details-path to do it. As I said, I have the "appetit" to do it, but i don't understand very wellthe electronic part. The funny thing is that I can built the mechanical, I can write in g-code program, but I don't understand what electronic to built, how to connect and what sort of thing I need. I can't buy from cnchobby or gescos, first i don't use gredit cards either the coundry I live find anywhere to buy (Only profesional solusions I have here like Fanuc etc.,and not a hobby one!!). So I want to built one,but I need someone to saw me what to do. Please if anyone khow and want to help, sent us to all the begginers a note.

Hi again,

What exactly do you need; a step by step guide to assemble the board, or a detailed description of how it all works?

I guess you can make the PCB so why not just copy the design and/or ask question here on the Zone.

John

hi to all. I only want is to show me the connection path. For examble:
Take that desing of controller, connect that power suplies, connect stepper motors using this caculator to find the exactly resisto... Those thing. I can built a pcb, is not a problem. Also I saw That link http://www.electronics-lab.com/projects/pc/008/ , but as I said i don't find the full details how do I connect everything. I don't Know schematic. I want step by step step guide to assemble the board and connection from the paraller port to the motors. Some description of how it all works that will be fine. (I had in past build some kit of electronic, but only with detail description, such a manual).
Thank you all.
