| imo a single central leadscrew for a 4 foot gantry would not work. I think you will have racking problems even if the gantry is built with a balsa torsion box. What do others think? Andy

| well i dont know for sure yet, but i'm planning to run a central single screw and my gantry is 61 inches wide.... but i'm also building mine totally outta steel... so there is considerably more rigidity than one made of wood...

| I made mine using torsion boxes made of MDF, hardboard, hardwood and phenolic laminate. It has a full 50" cut and works extremely well. I have another screw/motor/bearing set I was going to use for twin screws if the single didn't do the job, but I won't need them on this machine.
