Quick change router bit

I found this at QuickRout tool Sears. (I think its the one ger21 was talking about in another thread)

It says it fits a Craftsman router. It looks like it mounts to a 1/2" shaft on the router with a a 1/2" collet. The bit side has a taper shaped quick connect that the adapters snap into. The 1/4" router bits are held by the adapters with two set screws.

I don't know if it will fit a Porter Cable. Does anyone know what size shaft is on the Porter Cable router?

Yes. (I don't know how accurate they relocate each time)

You can buy extra adapters. I think it was $10 for 2 or 3 of them.

This would be a big time saver if I can use them on my router. Just need to find out if it fits.

They have one for a porter cable, but I don't have the part # right now. Iwas able to find it on the sears website, though.

Good find if they index. I supose they only hold 1/2 and 1/4. My custom Porter Cable holders are still working great!

Porter Cable version - not sure if they sell a full PC set. I'll have to stop in the store and take a look, because the website kinda sucks for searching for these things.

Picked up a RotoZip "CH01 adapter" at Home Depot to fit Dremel bits into my Porter-Cable Laminate Trimmer thats running on a Harbor Freight Router speed controler. (Now thats a search engine's nightmare )

But seriously it fit the bill - how to get 1/8 bits into the 1/4 inch chuck. Works good and cheap enough to buy a second and drill out to 3/32 for other bits. (less than 6 bucks)

Any update from people using these? Looks like a good idea but does it work well? I wouldn't think that those two set screws would hold well enough compared to a proper collet setup.

This is a neet find. If you had concerns about those set screws you could grind a detent/flat in the shank to set them.. Still neet though

... the Eliminator Chuck, (originally designed specifically for the Porter Cable routers and now available for other brands), on several of my router tables, Leagacy Mill, etc. Works very well!

You can find them for $49-$59 and toolchanges are 10 seconds with the one hex screw.

Also, having seen Jeff Davis's (HomeCNC) custom collets and how he has each tool set in his tool library... it's tough to beat!

I used them several times and they work OK. Cut good and easy to change tools. The length stays set.

It does set up a vibration that I did not like. If I have a toolpath that runs a long time, I don't like to use them for extended time because the vibration seems like it might be hard on my router.

I don't know if they can be balanced. Something that might be worth trying. Has anyone else used them? maybe its just mine that are out of balance?
