I know nothing about servos but are these any good?

4 DC Motors w/Encoders CNC/Servo/Mill/Lathe qty=4 *NEW* Hathaway DC motors with high resolution Computer Optical Parts encoders.

Diameter: About 2"

Length: About 6.5" overall

Shaft: About 1.5" long

Hathaway Part Number: 9925093

Voltage: 24V DC

Computer Optical Products Encoder P/N: 101948-01

I can get 4 of them for $275.00 brand new. Would I have to go with Gecko drives to operate them? I don't want to spend that much money on driver boards. Aren't Gecko's more than $100 for each axis?

Thanks!

Darren

The size is close to my servo motors. The voltage is a bit lower but they sound like they could be somewhere between 300-450 oz/in peak motors.

Yes, it is expensive when you jump into servo power! Gecko drives G320 is about $114 each. But the speed and power is worth it to me.

Yes, you need to spend over $100 per axis to drive them. Gecko isn't the only solution, but it's the cheapest and works great!

I also think the BEC circuitry is seperate from the amperage going to the motor so the number of servos will not affect total amperage.
Doug

You are correct on that one, but the original question was about the battery...
I am using ROT math to determine the battery.
If have a motor which is rated for 15A max and 4 servos in the plane I end up with 17A load. In this case I would opt for an 25A speedo and a battery pack which can deliver 20A or better continous.
I never really care about the xx seconds burst. I believe this is a just a marketing tool of the manufacturer.

BTW I destroyed my Formosa (4 servos) with a TowerPro 18A speedo and a rewound BP21 outrunner. The motor ran fine at 15A WOT until the speedo fried after a series of snap rolls. Motor burned up, speedo trash, 2 servos fried, 3cell LiPo balooned, Formosa foam ball....
