Hi guys, It's coming to the point where I will have to get timing belts and gears within the next two weeks. How do you I know if I EVEN need a timing belt and pullys? Also, any sources for this stuff? I think McMaster sells the timing belts, but what about the appropriate pulleys to go with? Thanks, Matt

Matt, You will know you need these if; 1) You are needing to gear down the rpm from the motor to the screw. 2) If you need to offset the motor and screw (non direct drive) Ken http://www.sdp-si.com/eStore/CoverPg/Index.htm http://www.fnsheppard.com/ http://www.wmberg.com/catalog/

http://www.smallparts.com/components/ is another place. Might be a bit more pricey.

Links appreciated. ![]() Ken, But how do you know if you need to gear down? Or at least how do you figure out if you need to? Does it have something to do with the stepping? Hmm, I'll post my motor specs and gear specs tomorrow and do some more searching. -Matt

Matt Buddy, I have calculated the pulleys and gear ratios for a conversion and I believe them to be correct but it is still a very confusing number of calculations that need to be considered and I cannot help you at this point because I would have to re-think something that was done about 4 months ago and then never really understood. There are some real whiz bangs here so post some specs on the following and I am sure they will chime in. 1) Motor RPM, in/lbs 2) Screw Pitch and size 3) Controller capability 4) Encoder resolution if using servos 5) Desired IPM 6) Drives 7) etc
