| Is the carriage flexing / distorting / twisting ? If the carriage is not confirmed to be rigid then that could be a source of backlash. It might be a complex set of reasons rather than one. Andy

| Have a look at both sides of the nut your x axis acme screw passes through. Odds are that you will see an allen head screw on one side or the other, up above the acme screw. Tighten that screw to adjust your backlash. Most of the mills have a split bronze nut, as shown in the top picture on this page. By tightening the allen head screw, that slot is closed down, bringing the threads on either side of it closer together and reducing backlash. Tiger |
