Mounting a porter cable router

The Subject description says it all. Has anyone got a way that I can mount a porter cable router motor without hiring the services of a machinist? I am looking for some basic plans for an acme screw setup for a z-axis with a router. The xy axis is a compound milling table. I am tempted to tear apart a drill press for the z axis but hate the idea of ruining a tool...seems sacrilegious.

Thanks ahead of time to all that can help

I may have something that will wor for a Z axis. I have some air operated slides. If the air cylinder is removed a screw could be mounted in its place. Ill post a picture.

I was thinking of making a z axis out of this. I have lots of them.

Thumbs up Ohhhhh - maybe me too

Yeah - thats an approach - ready to go Z axis!
I'm not that far yet in my build - BUT yesterday I bought a porter cable laminate trimmer to build some moldings in the house remodel effort - thinking its after life was the mill.

Lets talk re specs and sizes, costs, availability on the side - you got me re: the 80/20 set up for my frame. I was planning on using a set of thk slides and a ballscrew but can swap/excess them if we can work a deal and I can simplify the build and still meet our requirements.
cheers, jim

Buy me a Beer?

I made mine out of Baltic Birch plywood, with 3/4" shafts and bearings from ebay.
