| I emailed Milwaukee to see if there were any problems with using a variable speed control for my router. Here`s their reply: The electronic speed control will reduce the voltage to the tool and slow it down. This generate more heat in the motor as it is not pulling air through the motor to cool it as it would at full speed. For a short period of run-time this wouldn't be a problem; generally a couple of minutes. If your looking for continuous use at a lower speed we would recommend looking at our newest 5625-20 3-1/2 HP Electronic Variable Speed Router which can be run at 10,000 - 22,000 rpm. | Just keep an eye on it and make sure it's not getting too hot. If it gets too hot, shut it down and let it cool off. I'm sure they want you to buy the new router, but a lot of people use those speed controls.
