I was told by a few people on here that HP Laserjet III printers are a good source for good, 100 oz/in unipolar steppers. I went into a local printer/copier repair shop today, and found that the HP laserjet II printer has exactly the same steppers as the laserjet III, (Confirmed by the tech there) so if they don't have three laserjet IIIs, you can use laserjet II steppers, as they are identical. | $5 each, they even pulled the motors out of the printers for me, as they wanted everything for parts. I thought I did pretty good

| Well, I could have gotten them free, the first guy who was helping me was more of the business running end of things, and they were just going to give me some laserjet IIs, but I didn't know they had the same motors so they asked the tech (who had just come back in) about it and he decided to charge me $5. Before they were going to make me take the whole thing, I figure five bucks is worth not having to deal with three large printers lol

| Now you can get the HobbyCNC Board which these motors work real well with, the instruction also has the right color wire coordination for them. I would sugest you use a min. of 24v, but I wired three computer power suplies together in series with floating ground and got 33.6volts with 8 amps (amps are limited to the lowest amperage of power suplies, so if you have two 10a power suplies and one 8 amp then your end result will be 8 amps which is pleanty for these motors rated at 1.4a each. If you need help just let me know, I wish i was into this when i was your age. Joe |

| Thanks, I sent you a pm, could you log into msn? I have a transformer from a microwave but I need some rewinding instructions. I also had another question about a design I've seen.

| Blackhawk, For building a microwave transformer, check out the mag. section as there is (I think) a good article on how to do it. http://www.cnczone.com/modules.php?n...warticle&id=27 Of course my opinion is highly biased ![]() One change is on the last one, I used an old wood chisel to hack off the HV winding and it worked very well and was less of a mess to clean up!

| Thanks, Joe already referred me to the original thread. Also a + on the chisel, I was going to have to drill it out since I don't have a drill press yet.
