| I have seen this post of a active cooler and it is impressive but is this level of cooling needed? Mounting a heatsink on G540 I also found a passive solution sold as a kit, it actually looks like a few P3 cpu heatsinks attached to the backside of the G540... Found on soigeneris web site.

| Just find a nice high CFM fan that will blow directly on the stock heat sink. Im using a radioshack 120mm fan with metal housing. It works very well at keeping my g540 cool. my mounting solution was very simple, the fan attached to some scrap ply with a 125mm hole in the center. the fan assembly is about 75mm from the g540 heatsink.

| Thanks for the reply Don, may I ask what specs you are running your G540 at? Voltage and current set resistor value? I'm not sure if the inductance of the stepper will matter. I'm thinking about using the temp probe of the S-PID to monitor the G540 instead of the S-PID itself.

| I found this on the Gecko website Support With adequate air flow a HS or HS/Fan combo might not be needed. The reason I was looking for this is because I'm thinking of replacing the 3K ohm resistor to a 3.5K resistor which is what my motors are rated for (3.5amp).

48 volts and, I believe, 3.5 kohm resistor. (What was supplied by CNCRouterParts.com as part of their kit.) I did make my own cables to move the resistor close to the G540 which made my motors run much cooler. I don't think the resistor placement is important anymore with the lastest version of the G540. |
