Correct wire gauge for 2.2kW spindle

Hello,

I've taken delivery of a chinese 2.2kW spindle and wanted to know what min gauge shielded power cable should be used? The plug supplied will house a cable of overall max 6-7mm diameter by the looks of things.

Anyone know who can supply locally in Melbourne, Australia?

Cheers,

Richard

In my opinion the plug inlet is too small on these chinese spindles.

I've just set up a 1.5kw spindle using 4 core insulated screened cable from Bamback (they have an office in melbourne also I think). They didn't have any stock of their special emc drive cable but they reckoned this was the same bar the clear outer insulation and coloured cores preserve on the emc cable.
I trimmed back the insulation and shielding and only the 4 cores go through the plug. Each core is 1.5mm I think. This leaves approx 1 cm without shielding. I heavily heatshrinked over the area. Not ideal but I think a decent thick cable is better than a thin one that fira through the plug.
The best option probably is to replace the plug with something bigger.

Thanks pippin. That's about the size I was anticipating (ie 16AWG or 18AWG) and I suspected that it would not fit in the plug provided.

Do they cut to length and offer shipping? Who was your contact in Sydney as the Melbourne office haven't answered my email yet.

Cheers, Richard
