I want to buy a porter cable 890 router.. --MOTOR ONLY-- So far the best deal I've found is at amazon for about $170.. But it's for router, base, case, etc.. I'd like to find a better deal somewhere on the 'router motor only'... Anyone know of any leads? I'd be nice to knock $30-40 or whatever off that price to not buy the stuff I don't need... Thanks, Mark

| Generally, buying the motor only tends to cost more that the whole package. Ebay is probably the only place you'll find one cheaper.

| I bid on one on ebay.. It was brand new.. but I got outbid.. I set my max to 161 bucks, figuring any higher than that and I might as well buy the one at amazon for $173.. Get better protection and no worries about being hassled if I need warranty repair... So, hopefully it gets here fairly quick.. I'm expecting the new sensor by the early part of next week... Bought a set of 3D bits from precisions bits, a set of 5 engraving bits for 10 bucks recommended by someone in my 'Box' thread.. and bought 3 solid carbide 4 flute 1/16" end mills off of ebay for 6 bucks each... and I also bought Photo V Carve... Have a couple projects I want to do son with that, so it got bumped in priority over Cut 3D.. maybe next month... gonna get that celtic font tomorrow morning... Also picked up a couple switches from the shack so I can finally make the cover for my S-PID box.. also picked up a DIN rail so I can mount the relays for the table and vacuum in the controller box...

![]() Just kidding. I did have it in my watch list but when i added up a super PID and the router i decided to do a best offer on a 2.2Kw spindle and inverter. But they would only come down 10 bucks and wanted to do the deal outside ebay. So now it is back to a 890 and super PID. At least i get a cooler LED readout. When searching amazon was the cheapest i could find so you did good. |

| The problems I had with going that route are: Will it fit in my existing K2 mount? How much run out is there? Will my precise bits collets fit? What is involved in fitting the S-PID sensor to it?

The good thing about that router, is that later, when I decide to upgrade to a more serious animal (either the 7500 series porter cable or a spindle), it will be a good choice for either my portable router table... or the router set up I'm adding into my Table saw set up (think all in one machine).. because it comes with a base that allows adjusting the height from above the table surface with an allen wrench... which is a big plus IMO...

| Yeah i got a old fashioned manual router + Table like that but the allen wrench is built into the shaft and you use a t handle to adjust the depth. I was waiting you you to snipe the auction i just won. Scored me a brand new in the box 7519 for 215 shipped off eBay. I wont be losing any sleep worrying about lack of HP now. Now i just got to come up with the cash for the Super PID and precision collet set. This is not a cheap hobby that's for sure. |

It'll be a while before I go up to the 3 1/4 HP version.. because not only do I have to consider the cost of the motor itself, but I also have to buy a new K2 mount, and if I'm not mistaken, my precision collets won't work on it either... So, even if I did score that router, I'd still be a good $175-200 from being able to use it.. and then I'd also have to rebuild my dust show and mounting system... So the 'next' upgrade will have to wait till I do the major rebuild of the whole table in steel.. Congrats on the score!
