48v power supply with a 5v or 12v output

I recall a post where someone mentioned that their 48v power supply had a 5v or 12v output, which they used to power some cooling fans. Anyone remember this post, or know of such a power supply?

Thanks in advance. I've been searching for that post for 3 or 4 days.

If you're using a Gecko 540 you could get Homann Designs' "Gecko 540 chiller" which has a 12 volt output that you can tap into. I bought this for my system and it works well. As I recall, I received it in less that a week from Australia. Here's a link: GC-01 V2 Gecko 540 Chiller [GC-01V2] - US$32.00 : Homann Designs!, The preferred CNC Component Supplier

I recall the poster mentioning a 48v power supply that happened to have a 5 or 12 volt output. I think the additional output was labeled wrong and they had to purchase new fans of the correct voltage.

I was about to order a 48v 12.5a supply to power a G540, and decided it would be advantageous to have a 5/12v output (rather than build a board to regulate the 48v down.)

You might contact Keling - their KL-600-48 power supply documentation only mentions 48 volt output, however there was a photo of that power supply in an old thread that clearly shows label markings indicating the presence of 12-volt and 5-volt outputs.

I would give the guys at Antek a call. You can get a 48v supply with 5v and 12v.

Antek - Your reliable source of transformers, power supplies, and more.

Computers power supply

I 'm using and old computer tower for my cnc electronics and the power supply for my 5vdc and 12vdc.

Below is a pic of the atx plug, just put a jumper(I made a switch) between the green ps-on to any of the black com, and power supply will go on without the computers motherboard.

Another couple of possibilities, one is to use the 5v or 12v off of the present PC using one of the 4pin HD connectors, the other is if you already have a power transformer that is a toroid is to wind on a 5v or 12v winding with a small bridge rectifier after it.
For fans you will not need precise regulation.
The 5v would only take about 8 turns and the 12v 20 turns of enameled wire.

Yep, yellow for 12v and red for 5v.
