Buy me a Beer?

You need motors and drives for the motors. Those will dictate your choice of power supply.

the ZEN kit comes with 3 x New Nema 23 Stepper Motors included (2 Phase, 4 Wires, 1.5A, Bipolar) so what are the drives and how will they be used. also as a note im hoping to add a forth axis later on.

edit:

So for a four axis machine id need 4 of these: http://probotix.com/stepper_motor_drivers/SideStep/ right?

I have no experience with those drives, but at first glance they look like they could work. You may find that they are better suited for a smaller machine than what you are getting, though.

One piece of info is missing. Does the stepper motor documentation specify the winding inductance (measured in mH)? You can use that info to calculate a recommended power supply voltage for the motors.

If the recommended power supply voltage is higher than perhaps 24 to 30 volts, though, you might find that the maximum voltage limit of 32 volts specified for those drivers will limit the maximum potential speed of your system, in which case you might want to look for drivers that can accommodate a higher maximum voltage.

OK, so i think im going to go with the Zen Kit and this setup: 4 Axis SideStep Core Stepper Motor Driver Kit - 4 Axis SideStep Core Stepper Motor Driver Kit

any issues you see right off the bat?

First things first: Did you actually buy those 3 things?

If you did... did you buy the Planet CNC Board include software, or was it at least included?
What do you mean by "adapter board for motors"?
Do you have a picture of the parts you got?

If you have not gotten those parts yet, you'll better wait until you have everything sorted out before buying anything.

The Sidestep kit you mention includes a breakout board that you might or might not already have.

I found a kit that will have everything i need in it this is what i am planing on buying:
  1. Zen Toolworks 12"x12" DIY kit
  2. 4 Axis SideStep Core Stepper Motor Driver Kit

This will give me the ability to add a 4th axis.

Honestly, I feel like a Fireball V90 machine might be a better option for that price range. It has a bigger working area and I'm sure it will go faster because of the screw pitch.

Remember that whichever you get, you'll have to get a router/dremel/cutting tool and buy or make a mount for it.

What materials do you want to cut with your machine?
