Buy me a Beer?
Inspirational Font...

Anyone know of a good (hopefully cheap or free, but quality is the biggest priority) font for use in signs and plaques of an inspirational nature.. Scripture, encouraging sayings, etc..?

For V Carving, Engraving, and even prism cuts...

Love the font in this plaque from the vector art 3D gallery if anyone knows what it is or where to get something like it...

Thanks!
Mark

What you are looking for is a calligraphy style font. You can search for "calligraphy free font" or "calligraphic free font."

Here is an example site that has a boatload of calligraphic fonts to browse and download:

Very nice! Thanks!

What I had been searching for before was "script font" and was not getting what I was looking for... It was all over the map...

Would really like to find that exact font though.. Love it!

You may have to play with the letters to get what you want - in the example you showed, the upper case descenders, like the lower part of the capital "L" may have to be entered separately as a larger size, and then moved until it is placed under the succeeding letters, etc. It still looks right because the tops are aligned.

I think this is the Black Chancery font, which is also available from DaFont.

Some of the capitals with long tails (A) interfere with adjacent letters; in VCarvePro I have had to make separate toolpaths for these letters to avoid problems.

Cheers!

This is about the closest that that site has, and it's still not near as nice...

I wonder who one goes about finding a 'specific font' when you don't know the name or the author?

Are there 'font experts' somewhere that know how to do this? Kinda like stamp collectors or art experts, but for fonts?

I don't know if there is a global approach, but when you buy graphics programs like CorelDRAW they often come with tons of fonts. Word and CorelDraw can display the font name in the font itself in the drop down box used for font selection, which makes it pretty easy to find what you want.

Black Chancery is one of my favourites because the vertical letters don't interfere with each other and they are pretty forgiving on Z=0 definition errors.
Cheers!

When searching for specific fonts I use what the font by myfonts or identifont it works good on serif and sans serif fonts but not so good on scripts and calligraphy at least in my experience... but you can upload a pic to their forums and you will get the help you need fairly quickly.. as a side note do a search for letterhead fonts they are some of my personal favorites.. they aren't free but they are all very nice

What does 'that' mean?

Love the stuff at letterhead fonts, but they are pretty pricey.. That's on my 'down the road' list... But definitely want to take advantage of their stuff at some point...

Sorry... Whatthefont will come up if you search it in google... basically you take the most notable portion of some text... like the Lord part in the pic you posted and crop it so it's only the text in a little picture then upload the picture and it will look at it and try to find a match or something close... I tried with the pic you posted but the wood grain made it too hard and the picture isn't clear enough... If you can get a high quality screen grab from inside the program with just black on white that would be best. If you post it here I could try again but it really is a handy website to figure out how to use. Although it is very finicky at times.
