    Default Porter Cable 690

I have been using a Porter-Cable 690 in my CNC machine for about 1 year. I replaced the brushes a few months ago and am finding the router is running much slower, around 9000rpm's as compared to a new one at 23000. I then put my spare on and now that one is running slow as well. I have been using a router speed control on both routers and am wondering if that may have caused an issue. Does anyone out there have a router that is best suited for this application? I'm willing to switch to another brand if someone has a recommendation.

    thanks

Are you sure it's not the speed control? I've never seen a 690 not run at the rated speed. And I worked in a shop that had about 40 of them, abused daily for 15 years. The only problems I've ever seen were bad switches and cords.

A 690 should run at 27,000 rpm, btw.

I use a Super-PID on mine to control the RPM, and have accurate rpm control from 5000 to the full 27,000.

I was using the speed control, when I noticed the router getting slower I disconnected it from the speed control and it turns at 9300. The second router did the same thing.

Sounds like the speed control could have somehow damaged it? I don't know enough to know if that's possible, but the fact that it's happened twice would point in that direction.

Have you checked the voltage where it's plugged in?

Two routers, same problem. Check the supply voltage or plug the router into a known good outlet!
    Good luck.

If this is a regular router speed control box I would suspect that first. Plug the routers directly into a known good wall outlet as Bill South suggested.
