here is my latest creation and let me tell you, dealing with heavy metal is ......well hard! yesterday i was so tired that i went out for a coffe. today is the 5'th day working on this preject and it is coming out nicely, the z axis i had ready made just needed to drill holes, the y axes got done and tested today, did precision testing on it and after 15 back and forth movements of 1 meter it parked itself on 0, that is measured with a scale of 0.01 mm, and it was expected to be like that since i am using 38mm NSK screws with double ball nuts. Again sorry for the pictures but my bro has snached both nikon cameras ( D50 and D5000 ) so expect better pictures tomorrow.Rails are hiwin 25mm so everything on this build costs an arm and a leg. Initialy it will be driven by NEMA 34 steppers and geckodrive G212 to be later replace by G320 and servos. P.S. attaching photos not working !!! Last edited by tommylight; 04-09-2011 at 07:57 PM. ![]() ![]() First off....I swear I saw a router being held on to some sort of machine with electrical tape!!! And would you let me move my shop in to a corner of your massive amount of space! WOW what a great workshop! I love it. And the machine your building looks great! Cant wait to see it cut. Eric |

Although not tape, some kind of belt i got with a huge subwoofer i had installed in my now late AUDI, i have 2 of them .....belt's not woofers. The good thing about the workshop : space over 80 square meters at 3.8 meters high, the bad: i am still paying for it !!! I took a bank loan so i have to cough up 233 euros every month. Back to the build. You will have to wait for those cuts since i am still waiting for some thinner and longer screw/nut and 4 more carriages, but if i don't get them in 2-3 days i will mount the ones i have and learn to live with 140X110 cm work area for the time being. |

| Almost forgot, i am very interested in finding someone in europe that has spare cnc part for trade or sale. I have a lot of stuff as you can see in the pictures and a lot more in boxes and drawers, not only for cnc but also laptop and computer, car, audio video, photocopier, UPS, electronics parts etc etc, so just ask and i just might have something that you need. Most of the stuff i don't use i am willing to give for free, postage and handling included. Now the stuff i DON'T have and i urgently need: Couplings, Cable carriers, NEMA 42 servo motors with or without encoders, L297/L298 IC .............. i will add more stuff as i go. Regards, Tom. |

Hi there, here are some pictures of the current state since i have disassembled everything and painted it red, so now i am putting it back together and adding the necessary limit switches. I've been also thinking of covering it with thin aluminum sheet or thin metal sheet that come in different colors. Also i have to build a table for work holding but that is a tough decision since it will have to do a bit of wood but lots more of plastic and aluminum sheet, so any suggestion is more than welcome. Regards, Tom P.S. Sorry i forgot to mention that i already tested it and it does a nice job at cutting plastic 10mm thick in one pas with a 8mm end mill @650mm/min feed rate. Being as i only have 4 carriages i could not push it further but i bet it will do way faster since the crappy router is a 1200W / 34000 RPM ,but i don't think the bearings will last long at that speed. | Ok- How are you running your control on a HU? That is a really awesome idea, and being that my best friend owns a car audio business, I would like to know how to do this! Also what do you do in your shop other then build CNC's that looks like a little wonderland of deceased electronics and fun! machine looks great btw |

it is a computer car monitor and radio, nothing more so no CD no DVD nothing, just two audio/video inputs, one VGA input, one USB connector for touchscreen, and an input for a reverse camera. it also has 4 speaker outputs and an A/V output. Soooo now i can just attach 4 speakers and blast the music while the cnc is doing it's job. ![]() As for what i do in the shop it's a long list, but to keep it short, i am very good at electronic, computer hardware, cars, basically anything electro-mechanical i can figure out in minutes ( i had a very good/bad experience 2 years ago when my brother was sick with gylian-barre syndrome and was attached to a lot of equipment to keep him alive for 15 days and monitor his condition, but the good thing was i could walk up to any of those equipment have a look and be setting up the parameters in seconds, that in turn made me a sort of trainer for the staff there since this is a post-war state and the staff is still not trained to use the new equipment they got in the last 3 to 5 years). I have worked for some of the biggest organizations in Europe including United Nations and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe as an IT/COMMS technician and network administrator, i owned 3 computer shops after the war and and car audio/alarm system shop before the war. I think i over did it !!! Back to the subject of CNC building, tomorrow i am getting another 4 meter HiWin 25mm rail, 3 carriages, a 3m long 25mm ball-screw and a ball-nut, another ELTE hi speed spindle and some cable carriers at 7 cm wide, and some other stuff. Thanks a lot for reading/commenting/suggesting etc, i really appreciate it. Regards, Tom |
