Smooth Stepper questions...

Hey guys, just wondering if anyone is using their smooth stepper board with windows 7 x64? I'm currently in the process of building a desktop mill and was hoping to run it in my office, instead of the dungeon....

Also would it be better to mount the smooth stepper in it's own box, or can I put it in my controller box?

Finally, the documentation states that it supports spindle control; can the super pid be hooked up to it?

I have another laptop with XP if absolutely necessary. I'll never use vista...

Thanks.

I use the smoothstepper and gecko 540..
and I use it to feed a superpid to get my spindle control that's about it..
i have had it working on windows xp and windows 7 32. I think it was flaky when i tried the windows 7 64bit ..but it may of been my setup up i stuck with windows 7 32 bit..
but there were some software gotchas that applied to my stuff..
(needed a certain version of plugin for smoothstepper and a certain version of mach3)
...

Interesting... so do you feed the super pid off the smoothstepper, or gecko 540? Thanks for the info..

OK the smoothstepper parallel port one goes to the g540 then the vfd signal from the g540 (g540 pins 7,8 and 9) goes to the superpid speed input pins..
the tach signal off of the superpid goes to port three pin 6 off my smoothsteeper and the smoothstepper reports that speed on back to mach3
