Upgrade CNC tenoner control to Mach 3 compatible | | Hello, I know this thread doesn't quite fit here, but I wasn't sure where would be better.
Anyway, we just bought a CNC tenoning machine (see attached pics), that was built in 2001, and has a DOS touchscreen controller. IT has 2 Oriental ASM69AC motors (X and Y axis), coupled to ASD160-5 drivers, that are plugged into a custom control board. It has a third small stepper motor for the tenon backstop. The Oriental motors are Alpha step (closed loop) models. It also has several inputs and outputs, for clamping cylinders, etc.
My question is, how hard would it be to change this machine to run Mach 3? I like the conversational interface that it has, but I can't tweak anything, or modify anything. I'd like to be able to change how it operates, to get the maximum production speed for high volume jobs. And I'm used to running a ShopBot, where I have control over everything, which I like .
What are your thoughts?
Thanks,
Jason |
