Greetings all, I have a small table top cnc router (12x18) it supposed to have 14-4 lead screws, they are from the orient and are trapezoidal. I can't seem to find any nuts to replace the crappy plastic nuts that the builder used. very sloppy nearly 1mm. I would hate to replace the screws if I can get the proper nuts and clean up this slop. I don't know what kind of tolerances I can attain with these screws. I am new to this type of machining. I was looking into ballscrews but not sure it's worth the money. I originally hoped to do some jewelry work with this. would love suggestions and suppliers! thanks |

I will be happy to change the screws and nuts b ut I don't know exactly what to change to that will be comparable to the 14x4mm lead that it has. I looked into 5/8 x 8 acme but don't know enough about it. then I don't know if I have to retune everything, as I said I am a newbie to cnc. I have a very old Austrian Maximat combo in the garage and that I know how to use. |

| You could go with 1/2-10 2 start acme screws. Those would be pretty close, and if you want to do really fine work those could be a good choice. They would give you more resolution and lower speed than what's typically used for routers here - more like 1/2-10 5 start.

| I'd also recommend the dumpstercnc nuts. They've held up well pushing around my 140lb+ gantry.

| Finding the right nuts is not the only problem .. in metric sysem there are several norms ( DIN ISO and the Japanese Norms ).. regarding the accuracy and reliability components of both systems should not be paired... 14x4 is very uncommon - 14x3 seems to be use sure that you would not be wrong with 14x4mm http://de.misumi-ec.com/pdf/fa/p1_0719.pdf Here you can order the 14x4 nuts for about 10.1 Euro p pcs Runde Muttern mit Trapezgewinde, eingängig rechts, Rotguss - Mädler Webshop DATASHEET ( unfortunately in German ) http://www.maedler.de/Article/64331400.aspx
