8020 CNC Router

The goal was to build a CNC router from 8020 aluminum extrusions. Ultimately the picture below shows where I ended up....



This router was built 2 years ago. I've started transcribing my notes into a blog which is part Instructable, part ramblings of someone who spent too much time in the garage.

The base consists of 4 x 1030 8020 extrusions arranged to form a fully supported base. This design will have 2 lead screws on the X axis, one on either side. A slightly more expensive way to do this but it helps overall rigidity.

Added detailed dimensional drawings for the bearing blocks, motor mounts, delrin nuts to the blog. The drawings don't meet any mechanical drawing standards but have enough detail for you to make your own parts.
