you cant overkill it, professional cnc use 5-20HP spindles, the more HP the faster you can move the bit through the material, as long as your machine can handle it.

For my machine I use the Porter Cable 890 router, its 2.25HP and has a variable speed controller.

I wouldnt go any less HP for what I do with my machine. Mostly wood and plywood.

Make sure whatever router you go with, that you can mount it to your machine conveniently and easily. The porter cable line, hitachi line and some other have a nice mount made by K2 CNC which makes mounting easy.

A 1050W Kress has done me well, no doubt, it just works and is made for cnc with its construction.

Regards.

Buy me a Beer?

I'll put in my vote for a Chinese spindle. Durable, accurate, super quiet, long duty cycle, and really powerful! They are about twice the price of a router but totaly worthit I've also owned a hitachi 12vc and it's ok as well but no comparison to the spindle.

I agree that when you're starting out buying a cheap router is a good way to go. It's much easier to plug in a 110 v router than work out a VFD required for the chinese spindles. However, you may want to get a step up from the Craftsman such as a Hitachi or a Bosch that many people have sucessfully used on their machines.

After you have figured out your specific needs, I suspect that you will covet and then purchase a more expensive spindle!

1050 Watt approx 1.4hp

Not much torque in the kress but fine for wood and using smaller cutting tools. Not sure about the Chinese stuff, first thought would be to avoid Chinese made products; however have had very acceptable Taiwan made products in the past, just not Chinese.

Regards.

Don't knock it before you've tried it! My spindle from ebayer linearmotionbearings has been great. Most of the problems people have been having are with the vfd and not the spindle. I have a 2.2kw water cooled model. With a Bedford vfd but I suggest a hitatchi x200 vfd. If you buy that cheap I guarantee it will need replacing. However, the Chinese spindle option will set you back a good $600.

Hi,

not trying to knock anything specifically, just have had bad experience for the most part with Chinese gear (accuracy wise). Giving something a try is fine, but if you can get Japanese, S. Korean, German, Taiwan for not much more I would go with that, its just an opinion based on experience.

Regards.
