Star Linear rail help needed....

Several months ago I scored from eBay a Star Linear rail with 4 blocks for a very good price. But I need a second rail and I can't quite figure out what kind of rail I need.

The bearing blocks are part number 1622-194-10 and I need to know what type of rail is used. I'm needing a 36" length rail. The rail only has "Star Germany N" etched into it, no other markings.

If I could figure out how the 1622-194-10 part number breaks down, that would be nice.

Since every thread is always better with a photo... here is a shot of my CNC mill on the crapwood station I built this week:

Thank you for any help you can offer. If you have said rail I need for sale, let me know... I'm interested.

Put a piece of MDF on top of that "crap wood station" and you'll have a place to lay your router wrenches and other stuff under the CNC machine. It will help make the structure more stable from shaking.

Hello
Good news, the linear bearings you have a very high quality, but are very old stock

You cannot get the Star brand of linear bearings anymore, (at least 20 years) but the brand is now manufactured by Bosch Rexroth, you should be able to cross referance the old numbers to new one's from Bosch,

I've notice Star isn't around anymore and was now part of Rexroth, didn't know it was that long ago. I've looked at the current Rexroth catalog and can't figure out how the part number system is laid out.

How does 1622-194-10 beak down? Right now, my best dumb guess is that I'm looking for a ??size 15?? rail for the bearing blocks that I've got.

The crapwood bench is very solid with the X bracing but it isn't complete yet.

No, I just received a rail with 4 blocks on it, no paper work or anything. I should note that there is also on the blocks "AA 09 L" above the 1622-194-10 part number.

Thank you for taking the time to look into this.

contact Bosch Linear , if possible they will cross referance a current part number for the matching rail,

The size of bosch / star bearings is normally determined by the height of the rail

The base of the rail I've got is right at 15m, so I guess that ties it to a size 15. The rail is 16.3mm thick.

So if I were to locate a new/used size 15 Rexroth rail, would it have the same profile as the old Star rail? I just want to make sure the old bearing blocks I've got will fit a modern 15 rail without issue.

Hello,

1622-194-10 breaks down as follow:

1622 - narrow carriage, standard length.

1 - size 15 linear rail,
9 - without preload (up to 10um clearance)
4 - accuracy class N (normal - lowest)

10 - end seals type (grey or blue soft plastic I suppose)

For these carriages you should look for 1605-104 (or 103,102,101 - lower number means higher precision)-31 rails, Rexroth or Star brand.

Thank you everyone for you input on this. Now I have a better understand of what I'm looking for and with luck, will stumble across a rail for a good price so I can do a future upgrade.

Thanks again! Free round of beers on the house!
