I have a heavy z axis and would like to apply a shaft lock of some sort to my z axis stepper motor back shaft. Any one know of a manufacturer? Thanks.

I assume we are talking about a brake?
I have used Electroid DC type in the past, I am not sure who carries them now?
Electromagnetic Clutches & Brakes

Thanks Al. That's exactly what I meant. Their website looks outdated, are they in business? I'll give them a call in the morning.

Its been about 10yrs since I bought, so I can't tell you for sure.
Automec were using them on their break/shear backgauges at one time.
Make sure you get the brake-on-off condition version.
