Buy me a Beer?
Cad/Cam Software

What programs are most of you running? I have got Solidworks, but what else do I need? I am trying to get my Router computer setup today while I am waiting on parts and more money.
Thanks

So you have a cad program, you will need a cam program to create your geode. There are lots of posts discussing the different programs, and it depends on what your planing to build.

Vectric's line of software is really good. I recommend taking a look.

I use Solidworks with SolidCam, works perfekt for me.
I like to have total controll, not like other software where you have 0 controll.

There are more than one software that give you "Total Control" if you know how to use them. I have used Edgecam, its good software but there is so much to it, its hard to know everything about it. I use Powerstation now, It is not upper end software but it does a good job for the Jobs I program.

I use Visual Mill. It works well for me. Not the cheapest, but it has better features than the cheaper programs. It also doesn't have some of the advanced features that more expensive packages have.

I am looking for something to do some 3d stuff with. I use Enroute Pro on a daily basis at work and it would suit my needs, but it is so expensive. Looking for something a bit cheaper!

I use google sketchup and vcarve pro a lot only 2d/2.5d work. Works great and I can draw quickly in sketchup, export a DXF and import into Vcarve Pro.

Vcarve is a great CAM program, fairly inexpensive, intuitive to use and lots of good features. If you want to do 3D work you would need something more expensive.

Sounds like you are in the same boat as I am, using SolidWorks for design but am on a tight budget for the cam software initially. I am thinking Vectric 2D carve to get out of the gate with, then move up from there. Vectric seems to be good about upgrading.

CamBam, very good all around program.
Don't have any financial gains out of it... just a very happy user.

I do my CAD in solidworks, and use BobCAD for CAM. I have both V23 and the SW integrated BobCAM product. BobCAD gets a bum wrap from a lot of people, but I find the software to be extremely capable. It does everything I need it to, including full 3D toolpaths.
