Need Help!- stressed machinist needs stepper/driver help

ok heres the setup i have a MAXNC cl mill that i have not been able to keep running since it was purchased four years ago. talked to a wonderful individual associated with the company today he recommended that i convert it to a new controller set up . I plan on using the steppers that came with it and thats about it can anyone help me figure out what i need to buy/build to get this little machine back to work ?

It would help if you can post a photo or three of the machine and provide the information that is on the stepper motor labels (if any). Manufacturer, part number, NM rating, etc, or provide a link to the specs for that particular model machine.

ok no pictures yet left machine at work but i did bring a moter with me home for this purpose it is a power max II model: p22nrxb-ldn-ns-00 it says bipolar series and all thre motors are the same model

i was thinking that a gecko drive system would be good but not sure how to see if these are compatable

MAXNC CL Mills this is a very similar set up the machine is the 15 model with the enbedded control that is avalible on the 10 model the combo i have no longer seems to exist

Here is a Pacific Scientific data sheet link that says it could be up to 253 oz-in torque, but no current rating or wiring is shown.

See also this link. It says it's an 8 wire motor, which means it can probably be wired bipolar parallel and work with the G540 as long as it doesn't need more than 3.5 amps.

You may want to consider replacing the motors and drivers with a more more efficent and powerful Nema 23 380 oz-in motors, G540 and 48vdc PSU kit from Cncrouterparts.com or Kelinginc.com.

cnc routerparts has a 3 axis kit with controller moters and all for 519.00 is that the kit that i should get and what else might i need

I just purchased one of those with four motors and no cables a few weeks ago for my build #3.

You probably have everything else already. No breakout board is needed, just a parallel cable. Decide whether to get the kit with motor cables included (They are much too long for your milling machine but you can shorten them or just roll them up behind the machine). The Cncrouterparts motors are connectorized and it's a plug and play affair.

Bean, I think our 3 axis kit will work out well for you. If you just want 3 6' cables, I can knock some money off your order or throw in a free parallel port cable -- just mention in the order notes.

Looks like Pacific Scientific has merged with someone. Links are no good now. I googled and cannot come up with the data sheets for this stepper. I have a old Max 1500 mill also and a new Gecko. Trying to figure out these 8 wire motors. Anyone have the data sheet saved or a new link?

yes, a 540. I am a controls guy, but not much experiance with steppers. I have read that for 8 wire motors better have the specs. The original wiring on the Max has all 4 blacks common together and 4 colors to seperate terminals. All I have found online so far shows nothing with 4 common tied together.
