Home built 5 axis machine

Has anyone built or know anyone who has built a 5 axis machine?

Can it be done without breaking the bank?

Where to get the rotary parts from and spindle rotary head

My first question would be, is there any chance you have access to a Mill, if you do and can do a cad/cam files for the parts you need it should not that bad. If you have to buy the part, i could only guess, it depends oh how big the bank is you are doing to break. sorry thats not much help.

I will be adding ad 4th servro for index to mine in the next few months, I will be using it for engraving wine glass and some engraving on "round" pieces.

This is one of the emc developers. He uses it to test the kins and trajectory planner amoung other things.. It is a maxnc with a few rotorys added.

YouTube - Homemade 5 axis machine, running EMC2, in XYZAB configuration
YouTube - 4 axis maxnc 10 running through some motions using EMC2
YouTube - 5-axis milling demo with EMC2
Here is another at a university
YouTube - 5-Axis CNC Mill @ Hogeschool Antwerpen

With kins setup for a given machine - (from what I hear) hand writing complex gcode is quite a bit easier. The first video was about 30 lines of gcode iirc.

There are several builds in this forum where people have built there own / are building their own. Try searching for them.

As mentioned, there are numerous 5-axis builds on the board, and a quick search will yield many results.

One thing to know is that it will not be cheap. Whether or not it will "break the bank" depends on your budget, but expect to spend quite a bit of money.

check here:
DoughtyDrive product b
About $2600 for the B/C drive. Definitely on my wish list as soon as I have enough spare change.
In the mean time, I attached some SW images of an idea I am working on to make a 5-axis system to practice with until the cash decides to show up.
