Clear Vue Cyclones

Hey not sure if this is correct place to post, but I want to install a vacuum system such as seen on youtube for my machine. Serious about it now...

My machine is fairly large, about 4' x 6', wood router style

I have no idea where to start, willing to use my machine to make some parts, or spend a few hundred bucks on a kit but how big?

thanks

I just installed a clear view. Great unit.. Only wish I got the left hand entry rather then right seeing the fan motor spins more counter clockwise. But I'm told by Bill P that seeing the motor choice is so strong it should not make a difference with that design when it comes to separation.

Great people to deal with and your not sending your money directly to china (as you would with a grizzly or other.

If you are serious about having a great sucking unit consider a clear view... It for sure puts my 10 years using the wood magazine design cyclone to shame. Wish I would have upgraded years ago..

I have been using the small unit that fits on top of a shop vac on my table top router, goes a great job. If I had a bigger router I would put one of the larger Clear View units on it.

If all you can spend is a couple hundred dollars, then I suggest you find a coupon (the current edition of Wood Magazine has one), go off to Harbor Freight, and get a 2HP Dust Collector for $139. Then go to Wynn Engineering, and get a 35A filter (the basic one). Then google "Thein Baffle" and build one. Look here on the 'zone to find a "dust shoe" and build one. Connect the DC to the dust shoe with 4" S&D PVC pipe, some 45 degree elbows (not 90 degrees) and a length of 4" flexible duct.

You want a dust collector, not a shop vac. You want a .5 micron filter, not anything bigger.

A Clear Vue cyclone is an excellent product, really, really good. If you get the full sized cyclone with the 5HP motor and the 15" impeller, the double Wynn filter, use 6" duct with 4" drops and plumb it with spiral pipe, you will have a great system. It will cost more than a couple hundred dollars.

Read the Penz site. It has a ton of information. It's all good.

Remember that the purpose of the cyclone is to get as much stuff out of the airstream as you can before you go through the filter. You can wimp out on that part as long as the filter is good. A great cyclone and a cheap filter is not good, a lousy cyclone and a great filter is much, much better.

I like this version:
Adding a Thien Baffle to a Harbor Freight DC

because the baffle is inside the DC
