Question on Travel Distance

Hello everyone,

Can anyone please tell me what is the recommended travel distance of x-y axis, of 3-axis mini/desktop CNC router, to machines a square 30cm x 30cm alumunium and 10cm thick?

>30x30x10 + the diameter of the cutting bit you intend to use. Rails would have to be longer than those dimensions by the width of the carriages / bearings.

So, will 1 meter length (total length, end-to-end) of both, linear guide rod and ball screw, would be enough for this small project?

Talking X & Y sizes

i've found that depends on the materals you make it out of.. MDF or PLY you will need to add about 20cm each for X & Y for the carrages & Axis rails etc..

it also gives you a bit of wiggle room (clamps etc...).

so to do 30cm x 30cm i would do a 50cm x 50cm x 30cm machine at least or a 60cm x 60cm x 40cm to be safe..

just my 2c worth as i'm new & learning stuff all the time too.. and size is a major one.. i err on the too big then the not big enough.

Is this the design you intend to use? Unsupported rails will not do the job.
